Pawfect Pups

Who says dogs are only man’s best friends?  These days a loyal canine can be a bride’s best friend, as well.  The trend of including pups in a wedding ceremony has been on the rise.  Embraced by celebrities such as Gisele Bundchen, Carrie Underwood, and Jennifer Hudson, puppy participation has created a whole new market for both the bridal and pet industries.

Carrie chose a pink tux for her Min Pin, Ace.

Ashlee Simpson and Pete Wentz included Pete's bulldog in their celebration.

Whether you want your pup to be a bridesmaid, a groomsman, or simply an honored guest, there are plenty of wedding wardrobe options to get your canine companion dressed for the occasion.

Pretty in Pink, Pt. II – Get Carried Away Escort Cards

In my earlier post, Pretty in Pink, Pt. I, I talked about all of the fabulous details of Carrie Underwood and Mike Fisher‘s beautiful wedding ceremony.  Now, however, I want to focus on how you can have a pink-tinged celebration that emulates Carrie’s style without having to match her budget!

One of the easiest details to copy from the reception are the escort card hockey pucks.  These take an element from the groom’s interests (hockey) and an element from the bride’s style (the color pink) and fuse them together to make an adorable wedding detail.  However, not every groom loves hockey!  Never fear, for this can be adapted to any sport or interest.  Take, for example, tennis:  If your guy loves tennis and you love the color pink, pick up a pack of pink tennis balls from your nearest sporting goods store.  Using a knife, create a slit in the ball that is about a quarter of an inch deep and you can insert an escort card right into that slit.  Spray the ball with glitter to achieve the metallic effect of Carrie’s hockey pucks.

Ever since she found success on American Idol’s stage, I have been a big Carrie Underwood fan.  From her catchy music to her trademark rhinestone-studded microphone, everything about her screams sheer femininity and Southern charm.  Carrie is the kind of celebrity everyone roots for, so, when it was announced that she and Canadian hockey star, Mike Fisher, were to wed, I immediately looked forward to the celebration!  After checking out the recap of the event, which was held on the tenth of July, I was not disappointed.   This has been one of my favorite celebrity weddings of late!

For such a high-profile celebrity as Carrie, the wedding itself had a humble charm despite the reported 5,000 crystals that were present in the decor.  While surely expensive, the ceremony and following reception were stunning and elegant without being over-the-top and tacky as many celeb weddings so often are.  The affair was dotted with a number of personal details that illustrated the love between Carrie and Mike – things like painted hockey pucks that served as name cards with table assignments and the reading of favorite biblical passages during the ceremony itself.

Carrie wore a Monique Lhuillier gown for the ceremony that most definitely suited her soft, girlie style.  While the dress was a little too frilly and reminiscent of a cupcake for my tastes, Carrie most definitely wore it well and it reflected her personality quite accordingly.  Despite my lack of excitement about the gown itself, I love, love, loved the party dress which was another Monique Lhuillier confection.  This number was flirty, feminine, and perfect for dancing the night away.  To complement Carrie’s wedding wardrobe, bridesmaids were clad in floor length blush colored gowns.

Other details of the wedding reception included a beautiful tiara that Mike gave Carrie as a wedding present, a ballroom swathed in crystals and the color pink, a cupcake tower as opposed to a traditional cake, and my favorite detail of all: Ace, Carrie’s Miniature Pinscher, who walked down the aisle clad in a pink tux adorned with Swarovski crystals.
